WHO ARE WE?

JENS

I am 41 years old and I have been working with dogs for more than 20 years. In my first years as a hunter I had a German Shorthaired Pointer, but since I spent more and more time going hunting, I thought I was missing some precision and passion for water.

Therefore I asked around in hunting circles, to find out if there were some good German Wirehaired puppies on the way. It was highly recommended to me to contact Jens Velling’s Kennel Hjortlund, and on the 28th of March 1998 Hjortlund’s Zita was born and my first wire-haired was a reality and this was the starting point for my time as “a wire-haired kind of guy.”

I have been accepted into the register of tracker dogs with Oscar, Donna and Sara and besides that I spent a great deal of my free time hunting, going to test and training the dogs.

I live with Gitte and the kids Frederik and Christian and our daughter Frida.

Luckily, Gitte is also crazy about the wirehaired pointers, so we share this time-consuming hobby in as large a scale as possible. Gitte once confessed to me, that if there were 8 days to a week – then she would train 8 days a week!

Union-wise I am the Wirehaired Club’s main contact in the local area, I lead the test for the Wirehaired Club’s tracker trial and for the Hunting Association’s continental Fall’s Field test around Grindsted.

GITTE
I am 40 years old and have been working with dogs for more than 15 years. I work as a clerk at Grene in Skjern.

I live with Jens and the kids Frederik and Christian. Besides waiting on these three gentlemen (behind every man’s success is a woman), I spend a lot of my free time hunting, going to test and training the dogs.
D. 26.04.09 we got our daughter Frida.

Hjortlund’s Arnold (usually called Skipper) is the first wirehaired I have purposely lead forward test-wise. The highlight so far with Skipper was getting a 1st prize on the utility (VGP) test in Ringkøbing with 252 points making him the 2nd best dog of the trial.

I very much like the handling of the dogs and I am “the boss” whenever we have puppies. It is incredibly interesting following their speedy progress in the discovering of their new world.
